WORK EXPERIENCE
Phyllis Harbinger, ASID, CID has been running Design Concepts/Interiors, LLC, her own design firm, since 1993, servicing both commercial and residential clients in the New York Metropolitan area. She is as comfortable working on a suburban residence as she is in a sleek, modern city apartment dwelling. In fact, the combination of commercial and residential projects, the variety of locales and clients' styles creates a spark that fuels her creativity.
Ms. Harbinger is also a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner, which enables her to integrate Eastern methods and theories of design and balance into her practice.
She is NCIDQ certified, a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers and a New York State Certified Interior Designer.
Currently, the firm is working on many residential projects in the tri-state area including a pied a terre on Sutton Place South and an 12,000 sq. foot residence with an indoor basketball court. She was also one of the participants in the ASIDNY Metro/ Scarsdale Woman's Club Designer Show house in May 2006.
From 2004 - 2007, Phyllis served as a member of the ASID New York Metro Area's Board of Directors. In June 2009, she was chosen as the Designer of Record for an episode of HGTV's hit television show "Designers Challenge." She went on to appear as a guest judge on HGTV's new series "Battle on the Block" in 2010.
TEACHING & OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Ms. Harbinger is a New York State Certified Instructor and an Adjunct Professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology where she currently instructs first year Studio Design courses. Phyllis considers it very important to "give back" to the students what she received during her own academic experience.
This combination of design education and private practice allows Ms. Harbinger to enhance her skills and stay extremely current on design trends, codes and technology, while also creating a unique opportunity to share her valuable knowledge with her clients. She participates in continuing education courses in Interior Design and Computer program skills.
